From Overwhelmed to Balanced: Rethinking Work as a Support System

Bad week at work; overworked team making mistakes, delays in delivery, blaming games, client escalations, no childcare, a lot of “this is not good” statements and eyes staring at me to come up with a solution on the spot.

I am behind on cleaning the house, haven’t showered for three days, I have no childcare for the upcoming 10 days, my daughter kept asking for her laptop pretending to work like mommy because all she saw was me in front of a screen in meetings.

What kept me sane was my support system moments:

My significant other and good friend dragging me out to new jersey to watch a soccer game. My morning coffees in my not-so-well-kept-up backyard. My yoga stretches. My moments of giggles. My spontaneous “heading over to Chilo’s” message resulting with a gathering of parents and children running around on a gorgeous night of laughter, tears, margaritas and tacos.

This is what they call a support system, which implies that the main supported item is work. What if we swapped those to bring a different perspective to the hierarchy.

What if life was the center and work was the support system? Work as a supplement for life.

With that approach, my stress went down and my output went up. I was able to silence the imposter syndrome and the future driven anxiety and amplify my focus on what needs to get done.

We can achieve this together with my coaching practice. Grab some time with me 🥰
