Coaching vs Therapy
I always get this question.
“What’s the difference between Coaching and Therapy?”
Coach is like an athletic trainer. Therapist is like a medical doctor specializing in sports medicine. They both utilize the shared domain of knowledge such as anatomy, kinesiology, nutrition etc but the difference is the focus and purpose.
Your trainer focuses on improving fitness and performance. They will refer the athlete to a doctor if there is a reason to believe he or she has an injury.
As your coach, I am here to empower, help you take effective action, ask what is possible and facilitate self discovery.
Your therapist sees the client as a patient, looking at the issues in the lenses of disease, illness and a dx code.
But we are both here to help you tackle complex issues to provide a safe setting for open and honest communication.
Unlike the incorrect common knowledge coaches ARE trained and need to be certified (like myself) through ICF.
If you’re not sure whether coaching is the right fit, we can always do a chemistry check session.
